Thirssur Infrastructure Development Society (TIDeS) is promoted by Thrissur Chapters of Kerala Small Scale Industries Association, Chamber of Commerce and Kerala Vyapari Vyavasai Ekopana Samiti. It is a Public-Private-Participation initiative with Government of Kerala and Local Administration for the uplift of infrastructure development especially in the district of Thrissur. We concentrate on development of Small and Medium Enterprises.
Development of Clusters for industrial activity is one of the core areas identified by the Society. There is ample evidence that Small And Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) operating in the same or in related industrial sectors tend to cluster close to one another. This tendency to bunch in well defined areas has been observed in different environments in both developed and developing countries, and in different historical periods. There are sound economic reasons for this phenomenon. SMEs operating in such clusters derive a clear competitive advantage from:
- the proximity to sources of raw inputs,
- the availability of suitably customised business development services,
- the abundance of clients attracted by the cluster tradition in that industry, and
- the presence of a skilled labour force.
Among the numerous possibilities for SME clusters in Thrissur, we have identified Diamond Cutting, Note Book Manufacturing, Clay Tiles manufacturing, Light Engineering and Plastic Industries fit for immediate cluster formation. Diagnostic study has been made in respect of first 3 products. It is our hope and expectation that these clusters be made a reality within a short time with the abundant support we get from the State Government, Local Administration, MPs , MLAs and resource persons in the private domain. We look forward to propitious times of Infrastructure Development in Thrissur District. |
